Why this matters

Dogs are naturally curious and often explore the world with their noses and mouths 👃 This includes exposure to contaminated soil, water, and unfortunately, other animals’ feces. One of the most common parasites we see is Giardiasis, caused by Giardia.

Key things to know

Giardia is very common in dogs that go outside frequently 🌳, especially at parks, trails, or daycare environments, it spreads through contaminated water, soil, or feces 💧, it can cause diarrhea, soft stools, weight loss, or sometimes no symptoms at all, it is zoonotic, meaning it can be transmitted to humans 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦, particularly children or immunocompromised individuals

Why test if my pet seems fine

Many pets carry parasites without obvious symptoms. Routine fecal testing helps catch infections early, prevent spread to other pets or people, and ensure your pet stays healthy long term 💙

When to consider testing

After visiting dog parks, boarding, or daycare 🐕, if your pet has loose stool, diarrhea, or mucus in stool, if you have young children or vulnerable individuals at home, as part of routine wellness screening
